MarTREC is a USDOT Tier 1 University Transportation Center funded through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology.  Under MAP-21, MarTREC is building economic competitiveness through efficient, resilient, and sustainable maritime and multimodal transportation systems. MarTREC, through continued funding under the FAST Act, is working to preserve the Nation’s transportation system through efficient, resilient, and sustainable maritime and multimodal logistics and infrastructure. Our vision is to be recognized as the Nation’s premier source for expertise on maritime and multimodal transportation research and education. The MarTREC consortium consists of renowned maritime transportation researchers dedicated to transferrable research and inclusive education and workforce development.


Transportation Center Awarded $1.4 Million, Recognized as Top Level Facility

The center, led by Heather Nachtmann, Ph.D. at the U of A, is a consortium of researchers from Jackson State University in Mississippi, Louisiana State University, the University of New Orleans, Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and Texas A&M University.
